Handling Offers & Rejections

Navigate job decisions and setbacks with confidence

Start Your Journey

Discover your strengths, interests, and values with our guided self-assessment tools.

Book an Advisor

Landing an offer is exciting — but also comes with questions. What if you're unsure whether to accept? What if you're still waiting on other responses? What if you're rejected?

This stage of the career journey is critical, and CSO is here to support you in managing both opportunities and setbacks with professionalism, clarity, and confidence.

When You Receive an Offer

Pause, don't panic. Most employers give you time to consider — and it's perfectly professional to request it.

Here's what to consider before accepting:

Assess the Offer:
  • Role responsibilities and fit with your goals
  • Compensation and benefits (salary, allowances, bonuses)
  • Growth potential and learning opportunities
  • Company culture and work-life balance
  • Location and logistics (e.g., relocation, commute)
Sample questions to ask before deciding:
  • Is there flexibility in the start date?
  • Can I speak with a current employee to learn more about the work culture?

Negotiating an Offer (Professionally)

Negotiation is normal — especially if you have relevant experience or competing offers. Key tips:

  • Be appreciative, not aggressive.
  • Back your request with data (e.g., market salary norms).
  • Only negotiate once you're reasonably sure you'll accept if terms improve.

📌 Tip: Use AI to draft a professional negotiation message:

"Help me write a respectful email requesting a salary review for a job offer as a fresh graduate in finance in Pakistan."

If You're Waiting on Another Response
  • Be transparent — ask for an extension on the deadline if you're still interviewing elsewhere.
  • Don't ghost employers. Always communicate if you're accepting, declining, or requesting time.

If You Receive a Rejection

Rejection is painful — but it's not the end of the road. Every professional has been there. What matters is how you respond and what you learn.

Steps to bounce back:

  • Don't take it personally — selection depends on many factors.
  • Request feedback (if appropriate).
  • Reflect and identify areas for improvement (e.g., interview answers, resume, communication).
  • Keep applying — momentum helps build resilience.

📌 Use AI to help reflect constructively:

"Help me write a professional email asking for feedback after a job rejection."

"Based on this interview question I struggled with, suggest a better way to answer."

Mental Well-being & Resilience

Facing rejection repeatedly can be discouraging. Talk to your advisor or connect with a peer mentor to process your experience and refocus your strategy.
