Schedule Now

Employers often use job assessments during the hiring process to evaluate candidates' abilities, personality traits, and job fit — especially for competitive internships and graduate roles. Understanding how these tests work and practicing in advance can significantly boost your confidence and performance.

What Are Job Assessments?

Job assessments come in various forms depending on the employer and industry. Common types include:

Assessment TypePurposeExamples
Aptitude TestsEvaluate numerical, logical, and verbal reasoningSHL, Talent Q, Korn Ferry
Situational Judgment Tests (SJTs)Measure judgment and problem-solving in work scenariosUsed by FMCGs, consultancies, banks
Personality TestsUnderstand traits and cultural fitMBTI-style or Big 5-based tests
Skills TestsAssess job-specific or technical abilitiesExcel tests, coding tasks, writing samples
Game-Based AssessmentsEvaluate traits like attention, memory, and risk tolerancePymetrics, Arctic Shores

Tip: Each test measures something different — don't treat them all the same. Preparation depends on the type.

How to Prepare

Know What to Expect

Read the job description and company's recruitment process carefully. Ask alumni or CSO about previous student experiences. Email cso@lums.edu.pk to get connected to mentors who can help you understand what to expect.

Practice with Purpose

Use free practice platforms like:

  • JobTestPrep
  • AssessmentDay
  • 123test
  • HackerRank (for coding)
  • CaseBasix

Focus on your weak areas: numerical, logical, verbal, etc.

Simulate the Real Thing
  • Take practice tests in a quiet space
  • Time yourself
  • Use a computer if that's the test format
Reflect & Improve
  • Review answers to understand your mistakes
  • Use learning tools (YouTube, Khan Academy) to brush up on concepts
Get Feedback
  • Talk to a CSO advisor to build your assessment strategy
  • Connect with alumni or fellow students, who have taken the test previously.

AI Prompts to Support Your Preparation

Check out this guide to see how you can leverage AI for your job assessment prep!

When Should You Start Practicing?

Start 2–4 weeks before peak application cycles (usually in Fall and Spring). Some employers send tests immediately after you apply.

Pro tip: Build assessment practice into your study routine — 1-2 hours/week is enough to stay sharp.

Common Employers That Use Assessments

Many companies in Pakistan and globally use job assessments, especially in:

  • Consulting (e.g., McKinsey, BCG, Bain)
  • FMCGs (e.g., Unilever, Nestlé, P&G)
  • Tech (e.g., Google, Amazon, local startups)
  • Banking & Finance (e.g., MCB, Standard Chartered, PwC)
  • Development organizations & think tanks
